Description | A Bukovynian woman's linen shirt, handmade and heavily embroidered the length of the sleeves in three sections, the middle is covered in patterns of white on white satin stitch geometric designs with scarlet accents, the shoulders covered in dark heavy curl stitch horizontal organic patterns with bands of gold and silver thread and the lower half covered in diagonal strips of dark beaded embroidery. The front of the bodice has vertical strips of embroidery while the skirt portion of this shirt consists of a cotton sack stamped 'Purest and Best 50 lbs. Windsor salt. Factory filled. The Canadian Salt co. Limited, Windsor, Ontario. Circa 1880s. |
